What is the Acer ED273 Abidpx?

The Acer ED273 Abidpx is a 1080p 144Hz gaming monitor. It comes packed with a good number of features for a great price. Read this review of the Acer ED273 Abidpx to know more about it.

Acer ED273 Abidpx – Image Quality

The Acer ED273 Abidpx is a curved Full HD (1920 x 1080) gaming monitor. It is based on the VA panel. It covers 99% of the sRGB color gamut and supports 8-bit color depth via dithering (6-bit + FRC).

The image quality of this monitor is very good. You get vibrant looking images that have rich colors. They are a lot better than the washed-out colors you see on TN panels. I won’t recommend it for color-critical work like graphic design but it should be more than enough for watching movies and playing games.

The VA panels are popular for their high contrast levels. The Acer ED273 Abidpx has a contrast ratio of 3000:1. You get life-like images that are full of detail. The colors pop out and become more distinctive.

The combination of the curved screen and high contrast ratio adds more depth to images. The blacks appear darker and whites appear brighter.

It has a brightness level of 250-nits which should be fair enough for most well-lit spaces. The panel uniformity of the Acer ED273 Abidpx is fair. The colors are consistent throughout the panel. There were no major hiccups.

You get a pixel density of 81 PPI with a combination of 1080p resolution and a 27-inch screen. It is decent enough for gaming and watching movies. If you’re also using this monitor for working on the text, documents, etc., I suggest you have an arm-length’s distance between you and your monitor so that text appears sharp and images appear detailed.

The Acer ED273 Abidpx has wide 178-degree viewing angles. You won’t have any washed-out images due to change in colors, contrast, and brightness levels when you view the monitor from skewed angles.

The monitor we reviewed had no dead pixels on it. There was slight back-light bleeding towards its edges. This is common for most VA panels. It is tolerable and is only visible in dark areas of a game or a movie.

It has an anti-glare coating on it that will help diffuse any reflections from forming on it.

Acer ED273 Abidpx – Design, Ergonomics, and Connectivity

The Acer ED273 Abidpx comes in a simple design. It is a curved monitor and has a curvature of 1800R. The curve makes watching movies and playing games more immersive.

It also doesn’t have those aesthetic enhancements we see on most gaming monitors. It could be easily taken for a regular everyday use monitor. I did like this minimalistic touch. It comes in a glossy finish.

It has thin bezels that allow you to have fewer distractions when you use it for a multi-monitor setup. Despite being a 27-inch monitor, it doesn’t occupy too much space on the desk.

Acer got rid of OSD buttons and used a joystick for the navigation of the OSD menu. The joystick is much user-friendlier than buttons. It is placed on the backside of the monitor towards its lower right corner.

The overall build quality of this monitor is decent. It uses good quality plastic that is durable. The stand is also sturdy and doesn’t wobble. Its ergonomic ability is only limited to the -5°/15° tilt functionality.

You cannot adjust its height, swivel it, or rotate it. Thankfully, it has a 100x100mm VESA mount using which you can wall mount it or connect it to a third-party stand.

Its connectivity ports include 1x DisplayPort 1.2, 1x HDMI 1.4, and 1x DVI. There is also a 3.5mm headphone jack.

The HDMI cable supports 1080p at 120Hz. For 144Hz, you should use the DisplayPort.

You also get 2 x 3W built-in speakers. They are not too loud but are better than nothing. For a better audio experience, I suggest you use external speakers.

Acer ED273 Abidpx – Gaming Performance

The Acer ED273 Abidpx is an excellent monitor for gamers.

It has a refresh rate of 144Hz. You will now have a smooth gaming performance. You will definitely notice a big difference when you switch over from a 60Hz monitor.

You need to keep in mind that all monitors have a refresh rate of 60Hz as their default. You need to manually change it to 144Hz. This article shows you how to change your monitor’s refresh rate.

It has a response time of 4ms and its input lag is around 5ms. The input lag is completely imperceptible. The response time should be enough for most players. You can still enjoy competitive gaming on it but if you’re a hardcore competitive player, I would suggest 1ms TN panel monitors.

There are slight ghosting and motion blur present especially in dark areas of the video game. Only a few may notice it. This is present across all VA panels. It is definitely tolerable and is a small price you pay for better image quality and an immersive gaming experience.

The Acer ED273 Abidpx is compatible with Nvidia’s G-Sync technology and AMD’s FreeSync technology. You will not have any stuttering, screen-tearing, and lagging in video games as long as your FPS is between 48 and 144 when you use a DisplayPort or between 48 and 120 when you use an HDMI cable.

There were issues of brightness flickering when the FPS went below 48. It was not present on all monitors and was only seen when we used AMD cards. NVidia cards worked properly. A driver update should fix it at some point in the future.

Acer ED273 Abidpx – Features

The Acer ED273 Abidpx has a blue light filter that blocks the harmful blue light. You can game on it for long hours without worrying about eye strain. It is also a flicker-free display. You won’t have any headaches after prolonged use.

You also get other features like BlackBoost that will increase enemy visibility in dark areas without overexposing the bright areas. You also get custom crosshairs using the Aim Point feature.

You can also adjust various color settings like contrast, color temperature, brightness, gamma, etc. using the OSD menu. It is straight forward and user friendly.
