What is Acer Nitro EI491CRP

The Acer Nitro EI491CRP is one of the first 49-inch monitors to be released by Acer. It comes with an impressive spec sheet for a reasonable price. Read this review to know more about it.

Acer Nitro EI491CRP – Image Quality

The Acer EI491CRP is a 49-inch (3840 × 1080) ultrawide Monitor. It is based on a VA panel and covers 90% DCI-P3 color gamut. It supports 8-bit color depth.

The 3840 × 1080 resolution and 32:9 aspect ratio make it equivalent to two 1080p displays put side by side. It offers you a fair amount of screen real estate. You can effortlessly multitask and switch between tabs. I’ve explained this further in the Additional Features segment down below.

The image quality of this monitor is impressive. Its colors look true to life and pop out. It has a brightness level of 400-nits and a contrast ratio of 3000:1. Thanks to its high contrast ratio, you get blacks that look deeper and whites that look brighter.

The visuals of this monitor are neither saturated nor washed out. They are well-balanced. It is also fairly bright so I suggest you tone it down a bit. I would also recommend calibrating it for improved image quality.

Its screen has a 1800R curvature that makes gaming and watching movies immersive.

The overall panel uniformity of this monitor is decent. There are some inequalities towards the edges but overall, it is alright. I suggest you not buy this for graphic design and other color-critical activities.

The Acer EI491CRP is also an HDR-certified monitor. It is DisplayHDR400 certified which is an entry-level HDR. Its HDR performance is Hit / Miss. It produces bright and detailed visuals in some cases and in other cases they simply turn out over-saturated. I wouldn’t recommend buying this monitor if you want to use it mainly for consuming HDR content.

It has 178-degree wide viewing angles. Its colors, brightness, and contrast levels do not look washed out or dull unless viewed from extreme angles.

The monitor we reviewed had no dead pixels on it. There was a noticeable black smear present towards its edges which is common in almost all VA panel monitors. It is noticeable only in dark areas of a video game or movie. Its screen has a matte anti-glare coating that diffuses any reflections that form on it.

All in all, the image quality of Acer EI491CRP is very good. You can further improve it without some color tweaking. If you are mainly going to use it for work, gaming, and multimedia consumption, you will have no problems using it.

Acer Nitro EI491CRP – Design, Ergonomics, and Connectivity

The Acer EI491CRP comes in a simple design. It is covered with matte black plastic. There are a few red highlights here and there. It has thin bezels that maximize the viewing area of this monitor.

The build quality of this monitor is fair. It is made of durable plastic. Its v-shaped stand occupies a lot of space on the desk. It does wobble sometimes but you’ll be fine if you have a steady desk. In terms of ergonomics, it only has tilt functionality. You cannot swivel it, adjust its height or rotate it.

There is a 75x75mm VESA pattern using which you can also wall mount this monitor.

There are four OSD buttons present on the lower bezel that help you navigate the menu. I would have expected them to use a joystick but there is also a remote control included using which you can do the same.

One thing I noticed is that the remote needs to be very close to the monitor for it to function properly which kind of defeats its purpose.

It has plenty of connectivity options. They include: 2 x HDMI 1.4, 1 x HDMI 2.0 and 1 x DisplayPort 1.2. It has a 3.5mm headphone jack and 2 x 3W built-in speakers. I would suggest using external speakers for those using it to watch movies and play games.

Acer Nitro EI491CRP – Gaming Performance

The Acer EI491CRP offers gamers a lot of features.

It has a native refresh rate of 120Hz. You can safely overclock it to 144Hz using a DisplayPort. Gaming will be buttery smooth. Trust me on this one, once you experience the true power of a 144Hz monitor, you will never go back to 60Hz.

It also supports FreeSync refresh rate technology. This prevents stuttering, screen tearing and helps improve your gaming experience. You can also use it for Nvidia graphics cards without any issues.

This monitor has a response time of 4ms. Its input lag is around 10ms which is decent. I observed a tinge of ghosting especially in dark areas of fast-paced games.

This is something present in all VA panel monitors. Unless you are a hardcore competitive gamer, this should be nothing but a minor inconvenience to you.

The Acer EI491CRP is best suited for immersive single-player games, MOBAs, sim racing, and flight simulators. Its large curved screen will add more realism to them.

Using the PBP feature, you can view inputs from two sources like DisplayPort and HDMI at the same time on a single screen.
