What is Asus TUF VG35VQ?
Asus TUF VG35VQ – Image Quality
The Asus VG35VQ is a 35-inch WQHD (3440×1440) ultrawide monitor. It is based on the VA panel. It covers 100% of the sRGB color gamut and supports true 8-bit color depth.
The WQHD resolution offers you better image quality and a higher screen real estate than the FHD resolution. You can multitask among various applications effectively.
The image quality of this monitor is very good. Being a VA panel, it delivers you life-like images with vibrant colors that pop out. Pictures will have depth to them. The blacks look deeper and the whites look darker. The curved screen adds more immersion to games and movies.
The out-of-box color accuracy of this monitor is decent but it can be improved.
These are my optimal color settings for the Asus VG35VQ
- Game Visual: Racing Mode
- Brightness: 75
- Contrast: 85
- Color Temperature: User Mode: Red:82 / Green:95 / Blue:100
- Vivid Pixel: 25
These settings should improve visual quality while gaming and make it much more pleasing to the eyes.
Do remember that each monitor is different. These settings worked best for me and are not perfect. You can always tweak the color settings to suit your taste. For most people, the above color settings should be enough to see an improvement.
The VA panels are popular for their high contrast levels. The Asus VG35VQ has a contrast ratio of 2500:1. It has a brightness level of 300-nits. You will not have any issues with its brightness and can even use it in a well-lit room.
It supports HDR 10. HDR performance is largely underwhelming. It could have performed much better if it supported a wide color gamut and a higher brightness level. Do not buy this monitor for HDR gaming.
It has an optimal pixel density of 106PPI. The pictures are crisp looking and the text is sharp. It is also easy on the eyes as you won’t have to deal with pixelated images or blurry text.
The Asus VG35VQ has 178-degree wide and relaxed viewing angles. You will not have any major changes in colors, contrast, and brightness levels even when you view this monitor from extreme angles.
The monitor we reviewed had no dead pixels on it. There was minimal backlight bleeding present towards the edges. Most of the time you won’t even notice it. It is only visible in dark areas of a game or a movie.
It has a matte-anti-glare coting on it that prevents reflections from forming on it.
Overall, the image quality of the Asus VG35VQ is quite satisfactory. You will have excellent visuals in games or movies. Except for its performance in HDR, it had no major drawbacks. You will definitely be satisfied with it.
Asus TUF VG35VQ – Design, Ergonomics, and Connectivity
The Asus VG35VQ has a stylish design. It will definitely attract eyeballs. It is a curved monitor. It has a curvature of 1800R. Its thin bezels maximize the viewing area and minimize any distractions when you use it for a multi-monitor setup.
Its build quality is excellent. The plastic used is of good quality material. It is strong and durable. The cabinet has a matte anti-glare coating on it that makes it smudge-proof. The stand has a square base. It is sturdy and doesn’t wobble.
There is a joystick and four OSD buttons present on the backside of the monitor. The joystick helps you navigate the OSD menu and the buttons help you switch between different image presets.
The stand is fully ergonomic. You can adjust its height up to 100mm, swivel it left and right by 45° and also Tilt it by +20° /-5°. There is also a 100x100mm VESA pattern present on using which you can wall-mount the monitor or connect it to a third-party stand.
The Asus VG35VQ has plenty of connectivity ports. You get: 1x DisplayPort 1.2, 2x HDMI 2.0. There are a 3.5mm headphone jack and 2 x USB 3.0 Ports present for increased connectivity. This monitor doesn’t have built-in speakers.
Asus TUF VG35VQ – Gaming Performance
The Asus VG35VQ is an excellent choice for ultrawide gaming.
It has a refresh rate of 100Hz. You will have a buttery-smooth gaming experience. If you’re coming from a 60Hz monitor, there will be a night and day difference.
It has a 1ms MPRT response time and its input lag is around 4ms which is impressive for a VA panel.
Like any other VA panel monitor, the Asus VG35VQ also has issues with ghosting especially in dark areas of a game. It is not too distracting.
You can solve it with these simple steps:
- The Overdrive feature in the OSD menu helps you control the response time. Try using the “High” or “Extreme” setting to see if ghosting is reduced.
- The Trace Free feature in the OSD menu can also help you reduce it. Try setting it to 60 or 80 and see if ghosting is reduced.
Following these above steps should bring you a massive improvement in reducing ghosting.
The Asus VG35VQ supports AMD’s FreeSync variable refresh rate feature. You will not have any screen tearing, stuttering, and lagging in video games. It also works perfectly with 10-series and later Nvidia Graphics cards.
It also supports the Extreme Low Motion Blur (ELMB) technology. It reduces motion blur in games via backlight strobing. It cannot be active along with the FreeSync feature and reduces the overall brightness of your monitor when active.
Asus TUF VG35VQ – Features
The Asus VG35VQ has a blue light filter. You get four different filters to view different types of content. You will not suffer from any eye strain even after prolonged usage.
It is also a flicker-free monitor. You can use this monitor without worrying about headaches if you are sensitive to flickering.
The Shadow Boost feature brightens the dark areas of the game without overexposing brighter areas. This makes it easy to spot enemies in dark areas of the game.
The GamePlus hotkey offers you in-game enhancements like custom crosshairs, timers, FPS counters, etc. that help you enhance your gameplay experience.
The GameVisual feature has seven images pre-sets like Racing, MOBA, Cinema, FPS, RTS/RPG, sRGB, and Scenery. They optimize visuals for different types of content.
The OSD menu offers you a lot of control over the monitor. You can change various settings like brightness, contrast, color temperature, etc. using it. It is user-friendly and straightforward.
