What is BenQ GW2480

There are hundreds of 1080p monitors in the market. The BenQ GW2480 is also one of them. What is so special about it that makes it one of the best 1080p monitors? Read this review to find out!

BenQ GW2480 - Image Quality

The BenQ GW2480 is a 23.8-inch Full HD (1920×1080) Monitor. It is based on LG’s AH-IPS Panel. AH-IPS Panels are high-quality versions of IPS panels. They have better color accuracy, pixel density, and consume less power than ordinary IPS Panels.

The picture quality of this monitor is amazing. This monitor covers 100% of the sRGB color gamut (72% NTSC) and supports 8-bit color via dithering (6-bit + 2-bit FRC). The BenQ GW2480 has a pixel density of 93 PPI. The images have a good amount of detail and the text is sharp looking.

This monitor has a contrast ratio of 1000:1 and a brightness level of 250-nits. These are the common specs for most budget 1080p monitors.

The BenQ GW2480 is bright and vibrant nonetheless.  The panel uniformity of this monitor is good. The colors and brightness levels are consistent throughout the screen.

It had no dead pixels and backlight bleeding. There is minimal IPS glow visible on the corners of this monitor. Since IPS glow is pretty much present across all IPS panels, there is nothing you can do about it. It is not highly distracting. If fact, if you’re using this monitor in a well-lit environment. You wouldn’t notice it that much. Most users will have no issues at all.

The BenQ GW2480 has wide 178-degree viewing angles since it is based on the IPS Panel. You can view the monitor from all angles without any issues of change in color, contrast, or brightness.

The BenQ GW2480 has an anti-glare coating that will diffuse reflections. You can comfortably work in bright conditions without worrying about distracting reflections on your screen.

BenQ GW2480 - Design, Ergonomics and Connectivity

The overall design of the BenQ GW2480 is simple. It has ultra-thin bezels on three sides. The Frameless design maximizes the view and makes this monitor a suitable choice for multi-monitor setups without distractions.

Its build quality is decent. Its rear part has a matte-black finish with clean edges. The stand is also sturdy and doesn’t wobble. The stand also has room for effective cable management. You can remove a part of it and conceal cables.

The OSD buttons present on the bottom-right corner of the monitor are also responsive. The overall quality is good, the plastics used are durable and you don’t feel as if you’re buying a cheap monitor.

The stand can only be used to tilt the monitor by -5°/20°. Other ergonomic capabilities like height adjustment, screen rotation, and swivel options are absent.

This monitor a 100×100 VESA mounting option. You can use third party stands or wall-mount it without any issues.

The connectivity options of the BenQ GW2480 are generous. They include 1x DisplayPort 1.2, 1x HDMI 1.4, and 1x VGA. It also has a 3.5mm Headphone Jack.

This monitor also has 2x 1W built-in speakers. They are not too loud but should be enough for watching movies and YouTube in small spaces. I suggest you buy external speakers if you want to have the best possible experience while watching movies or playing games.

BenQ GW2480 - Gaming Performance

The BenQ GW2480 has a refresh rate of 60Hz. This is the standard for most budget monitors. This monitor is great for casual gaming and console gaming. You will be impressed by its visuals when you use it for PS4, Xbox, or Nintendo Switch. It is not meant for competitive players.

You can also overclock the monitor to a higher refresh rate of 75Hz. Check out this guide to safely overclock your monitor without breaking it.

It has a response time of 5ms an input lag of around 10ms. The input lag is imperceptible and there will be no issues of ghosting and motion blur.

This monitor doesn’t support Variable refresh rate technologies like FreeSync and G-Sync. This is understandable as this monitor is not meant for serious gamers in the first place and you also won’t be needing a top of the line graphic card to run games at 1080p and 60 FPS.

The overall performance is satisfactory. If you’re a casual gamer, you’ll definitely be satisfied with it.

For a better performance in fast-paced games, you can set the AMA (Advanced Motion Acceleration) option to “High” or “Premium” in the OSD Menu.
