What is Samsung CH890

The Samsung CH890 is one of the few ultrawide monitors in the market today that comes with a wide range of features. Read this review to find out if it is the right monitor for you.

Samsung CH890 – Image Quality

The Samsung CH890 is a 34-inch (3440 x 1440) ultrawide QHD monitor that sports an SVA Panel. SVA panels are Samsung’s own VA panels. They offer you better viewing angles when compared with the standard ones. It covers 95% of the sRGB color gamut and supports 8-bit color depth.

The image quality of this monitor is decent. The visuals look fairly vibrant with rich colors. This can be attributed to its high contrast ratio.

VA panels are popular for their higher contrast levels. This results in darker-looking blacks and brighter-looking whites. You can use this monitor for pretty much anything other than color-critical work such as photo editing. IPS panels are a better fit for that purpose.

It has a brightness level of 300-nits. This monitor is fairly bright. You will have no problems using it even in a well-lit room.

It has an ideal pixel density of 109PPI. The images will look detailed with no issues of pixelation. The text looks sharp without any blurriness.

The panel uniformity of this monitor is decent. I did notice minor ups and downs in its brightness levels towards its edges. It is not perceivable by most users. Like I said before, you will be fine as long as you are not going to use it for graphic design.

It has 178-degree wide viewing angles. Unlike TN panel monitors you will not have any washed-out visuals when you view it from extreme angles.

There were no dead pixels on this monitor. Its screen has a matte anti-glare coating that helps prevent diffuse reflections that form on it. There was only a slight amount of backlight bleeding present on its edges. It is only noticeable in dark scenes of a game or a movie.

Overall, The Samsung CH890 offers you a pretty good color accuracy. I was pleased with its color performance. You will have fun gaming and watching movies on it. It is an excellent choice for those looking to upgrade from their old 1080p display.

Samsung CH890 – Design, Ergonomics, and Connectivity

The Samsung CH890 comes in a neat solid black design. It has no aesthetic features like LED rings, RGB lights, etc. Its minimalistic design makes it a perfect fit for professional spaces.

Its screen has a curvature of 1800R. It eliminates distortions and helps cover a wide field of view. This improves immersion while gaming and watching movies. Its bezels are fairly thin. You will have no problems using it for multi-monitor setups.

The build quality of this monitor is decent. It is made of good quality plastic. It uses a Y-shaped stand. It stood firm without any wobble. It also offers you decent ergonomics. You can tilt it, adjust its height and swivel it.

The Samsung CH890 is one of the few 34-inch ultrawide monitors in the market that offer you such flexible ergonomics. It also has a 100x100mm VESA pattern present on it using which you can also wall-mount it.

There is an OSD joystick present using which you can navigate the OSD menu.

In terms of connectivity ports you get DisplayPort x 1, HDMI 2.0 x 1, and USB Type-C x 1 (65W). There are also several USB 3.0 ports for increased connectivity.

Samsung CH890 – Gaming Performance

The Samsung CH890 is a decent choice for gaming. It is a great choice for sim racing, MOBAs, flight simulators, and single-player games.

It has a refresh rate of 100Hz. It offers you a smooth gaming experience. It is especially useful for those playing fast-paced shooters and esports games.

It has a response time of 4ms and its input lag is around 10ms. Although its input lag is imperceptible, I would not recommend this monitor for hardcore competitive gamers. TN panel monitors offer you a better performance in such cases.

I did observe slight ghosting in dark areas of fast-paced games. Almost all VA panel monitors face this issue. The Samsung CH890 definitely performed better than most other VA panel monitors. It should not pose a major problem to most gamers.

Samsung CH890 – Additional Features

The Samsung CH890 offers you more screen real-estate thanks to its higher resolution. You can work on multiple applications at once without having to worry about running out of space. It comes with features like Picture-in-Picture (PIP) and Picture-by-Picture (PBP) that help you multitask seamlessly.

Using the PIP feature, you can resize a window down to 25% of the screen size and position it virtually anywhere you wish. This feature would be very helpful to programmers and for those who work on multiple spreadsheets.

Using the PBP feature, you can view two sources on the same monitor at the same time. The screen will be divided equally.

It has a blue light filter that helps prevent eye strain after prolonged use. It is also a flicker-free monitor. This means you will not experience any headaches while using it.

The Samsung MagicBright feature offers you various picture modes like Text, Internet, Game, Sport, Movie, and Custom. They optimize the image quality to that particular type of content.

The Samsung Magic Upscale feature helps prevent degradation of image quality when scaling up. The picture won’t lose its sharpness and vibrancy.  The overdrive feature helps reduce ghosting in games by controlling its response time.
